Valley of Outcasts– Jerall Mountains Citadel by Roadhouse699
I played this mod a few weeks ago and got it right up until the end, where I promptly broke it by running too far away from the quest-giver. I have not yet had a chance to go back and play it through again, because I want to start from the beginning and successfully romance one of the other romance-able people. Somehow poor Alfgar messed that one up and ended up Wilaar’s lover instead of Miram’s, Whoops. Poor Wilaar. He must have been up in those mountains a long time, because he isn’t very picky, is he?
I did enjoy the mod very much– it’s a cross between a rebuilding quest mod (like Helgen Reborn or Quaxe’s Winterhold Rebuilt) and a settlement-building mod (like Windstad Mine or Silverstead). It’s meant for you to do the quests and deliver the items over an extended period of time. The fortress settlement you are rebuilding is in the no-mans-land between Skyrim, Hammerfell, and High Rock.
It’s also in its own cell, so you there are relatively minimal conflicts in Skyrim itself. I would say that it would work much better on a less crowded mod list than mine– it’s got a lot of threads going and loading it in on top of Legacy of the Dragonborn, several other heavy quest mods, Campfire, several needs mods, and a whole passel of poser mods probably did not do it any favors. Additionally, I went back to the mod page and saw that there had been some update fixes which I haven’t put in yet. There were a few small random issues that I noticed but as I made zero effort to conflict check or patch it versus all of my other mods, I’m actually surprised I got as far as I did– all the way to the beginning of the final battle.
The voice-acting in this mod is quite good and kept me engaged- that’s always a pretty hard part, and I did enjoy the quests. I couldn’t speak as to how well the combat is tuned as I’m having issues with a combat mod merge that I did and currently would have to tgm through a fight with a chicken. One of these days I’ll fix that and go back and try again.
Alfgar meets Wilaar in Falkreath:
Wilaar is pretty dang cute…I guess I can’t blame Alfgar. He’s also pretty funny, even if he does have an odd taste in taxidermy.
Alfgar decides to help Wilaar:
The Valley and Citadel at the beginning of the quest chain:
Note– the mountains are moving around a bit in the shots. This is probably due to my use of Majestic Mountains– the LOD, even the near LOD is not persistent when you change the camera angle in this valley. I’ve noticed this bug in Hearthfire houses and in a few other places in vanilla Skyrim in the past, so it’s always possible it has nothing to do with this mod. It’s also possible that I accidentally failed to activate the LODs for MM in this load order– I really haven’t checked. So ignore any gaps. The mountains here go all the way around the valley.
It did allow me to get a few more interesting screenshots, so that’s good.
The gate in the last picture is the gate to the citadel–you have to get rid of the surrounding banditry to get it to open.
I think this ENB is Rudy… or anything else with that has a letterbox, which is present in subsequent screenshots. The DoF is a bit off for that, though.I forgot to take notes.
